MUIMUN 2012: Societies in Transition – Shifts in the Balance of Power

The uprisings in North Africa have reminded the world that peoples are the foundation of any solid state structure and that the failure to integrate Civil Society into these structures will inevitably lead to a weakening of statehood itself. Moreover, societies have become increasingly self-aware and the label “Facebook Revolutions” unmistakably reflects how modern technology and communication systems have given Civil Society effective tools for pourparler and opinion making. These developments not only indicate a new ability and willingness of societies to use their power but states must now re-connect to their people and find a new approach to cooperation with Civil Societies. At the 2012 MUIMUN conference the international community will debate in six comittees on how to pair up with Civil Society in order to create more stable states and shape peaceful environments in which the states and its people can thrive towards peace and prosperity.
