We therefore strongly recommend that you reserve the week of April 1st, 2013 for MUIMUN 2013!

The 7th MUIMUN conference will take place in the last week of the semester break of most German universities and also the second week of Easter high school vacations. Due to Easter Monday we might start the actual conference on Tuesday and continue until Saturday, but definite information on that will follow soon.

In any event, we count on seeing you in Münster next year!

When you woke up the morning (or afternoon) after the Farewell Party, you probably also had this strange feeling of underlying melancholia that did not go away with your hangover. It might even have grown more profound if you, like most Münster students, had your first day of classes after the semester break today. Maybe you thought something in the direction of “I don’t want to go back to the real world!” Well, don’t worry – you’re not alone. At least the MUIMUN team has so far been unable to really separate and since Saturday morning has continuously found excuses to get together to ease the pains of MUIMUN withdrawal. But there’s no way to escape it.

Of course you can go to other great MUNs over the course of the year, but it just won’t feel the same. But if you want to get close to the real thing and live in Münster or nearby, you might want to join the best team in the world and become a part of MUIMUN! We will soon embark on the journey to MUIMUN 2013 with a kick-off meeting at the end of April/beginning of May, the date of which will be announced here. Otherwise we might meet at the Global Media Forum in Bonn in June of this year – remember, as a MUIMUN delegate you have free admission!

So stay in touch and come back in 2013!

MUNs are often accused of not providing participants with hard skills and hands-on training. You know that’s not true, but even if it was, MUIMUN would be an exception because of our ‘MUIMUN meets Experts’ forum on the Thursday of the conference. Here, professionals in their fields provide you with methods and knowledge enough to conquer the world. In eleven different workshops delegates today were presented everything from techniques to improve intercultural understanding as well as details about the pros and cons of regulating banks. And more importantly, they were once again challenged to look beyond their horizon and to confront themselves with views ‘out of the box’.

The best prove for the workshops’ success is that although delegates were not too happy to have to leave their committee work for one afternoon, they all participated very actively and enjoyed themselves.

It’s a good tradition at almost every MUN to present the Security Council with a (fictious) spontaneous development in international politics they have to react to on the spot. MUIMUN is no different, so today our Security Council was interrupted in their debates on Syria by the announcement that Iran and Israel where at the brink of war. Delegates took the challenge and did a tremendous job at passing a good resolution within a short period of time while staying faithful to their countrys’ stances.

And not only Security Council have results already. Several other committees are reported to have passed resolutions or to be on their way to doing so. This is very unusual for a MUN after only two days and of course due to the fact that MUIMUN just has the best delegates!

Meanwhile, the team has been spared a major crisis until now (knock on wood!) and has great results to present as well. Or wouldn’t you agree, delegates, that so far MUIMUN is a result worthy of ten months’ preparation?

In every MUN conference, the first task for each committee is setting the agenda. By doing so, delegates also declare which topics are viewed as ‘important’ by their nations and which ones they feel can be neglected. They send a signal to the community, and they already define the trenches that will later dominate work on resolutions and debate in their committee.

But the first working day of the conference also sets the agenda for the remaining three days in a more general manner: it plays a vital part in establishing relationships between delegates, determines the conference atmosphere and puts the team’s preparations to the ultimate test.

So far, we feel that we have been up to the agenda we set ourselves ten months ago. Next on it is the Global Village at the Clubschiene – we motion to set the topic “Party” on the MUIMUN agenda!

It’s a goosebumps moment for every MUIMUN team when the Secretary General uses the gavel and speaks the magic words: “I hereby declare MUIMUN open!”

But day 1 of a MUIMUN conference does not start with the opening ceremony. It starts early in the morning with carrying chairs around (not the gavel-using kind for once), unloading cars full of delegates bags, flags and flowers, inspecting rooms (with PR team getting into ecstasy at the sight of a full-sized chandelier and massive round table in theirs), arranging banners, energizers involving whole shark families and, finally, welcoming and registering the very first delegates. It starts with a lot of nervosity and a hundred anticipated little catastrophes – and it ends with everything turning out very well indeed. The sun was brilliant all day, the castle looked gorgeous, no delegate got lost in Münster, every tool and every team member was in the right place at the right time, the Opening Ceremony had all the becoming pomp and circumstance and the champagne was good and plenty. But the most important thing: already now there was a certain fleeting thing present in the atmosphere, hanging around the high ceilings above the delegates engaged in conversation and the team members running around to fill champagne glasses – the MUIMUN spirit.

It’s less than 24 hours now until the first delegates register at Münster castle, and we’re beginning to realize that the product of last year’s work and struggle will soon be in front of us. The Committee Directors are already undergoing the boot camp that is the Chair Preparation Weekend, and the team is getting together for the last pre-conference meeting this afternoon.

It looks like the Münster weather will present itself from its more lovely side during the conference week: the weather report predicts a mostly sunny 15 °C (59 °F) during the day and hardly any precipitation, a little miracle for the rain capital Münster. If everything else turns out to go as smooth, we’ll truly be walking on sunshine.

We hope you have a safe journey and can’t wait to finally meet you!
